Tempe Tuesday Talks – Cinco de Mayo

Greetings friends! It’s Cinco de Mayo and Taco Tuesday! I must admit when I moved to AZ from Philly 24 years ago, I was a real novice when it came to Mexican food. So when I first came here in August of 1996, I couldn’t get enough of it: tacos, enchiladas, burritos, huevos de rancheros and tamales. But then, I hit my limit and haven’t really been a food since. Sorry to all my friends who get excited over Taco Tuesday! I do love guacamole and chips though. So to all of you who celebrate this day, enjoy!

Well, it has happened. The very worst thing that could happen at my house in this week of record heat. The AC went out! AAARGH! So we wait for the repair people and if you have to communicate with me today and I am a wee bit cranky, you will understand.

This week, my grandson 2 be is 15 weeks and the size of a navel orange. I am so obsessed with going to the Amazon everyday and buying things for him which now includes a bathrobe with an elephant head…..so freakin’ cute! But enough about us….

The Coalition is so super de duper busy. Our Opioid Committee is coming up on its first month of being formed and all of our partners are quite involved. Upcoming is a Cultural Competency training. It’s a 4 part series (5/14, 5/21, 5/28 and 6/4 from 11 am to noon) being presented by Dr. Jeff McGee and Cross Cultural Dynamics. Go to the Events page to learn more and register! Jeff is a great presenter and you will learn so much! This is something highly encourage for all coalition members, as well as the community at large.

On 5/13, Josh Azevedo will present a workshop (11 am to noon) on Talking To Teens During These Tough Times. The flyer for this will be out by the end of this week. Mark your calendars now and please distribute the flyer when it comes out!

Remember that next Tuesday, 5/12 is our general coalition meeting. 3:30 – 5:00 pm. I will be sending out the Zoom invitation later this week. Hope to see you there. Email me at [email protected] for more info!

Mother’s Day is coming. 5/10, this coming Sunday. Even if your mother is no longer with you, or lives elsewhere….remember her! I can’t wait to celebrate next year with my daughter in law on her first one. It is my absolute favorite job and I wouldn’t trade it for the world….even though there were times I would trade my children for mere pennies. Just kiddin’

Have a joyous Tuesday and week. Remember those who are sacrificing their health for us: the front line workers – the doctors, nurses, first responders, crisis workers, grocery store clerks, truck drivers and my dearest pals, the Amazon delivery people. And don’t forget all those celebrities who are removing their makeup, having to hunker down at home, do silly dances and home school their children with the rest of the world. (I did say that ‘tongue in cheek’)

Now get out there and have a day!
