We all know that kids can’t wait to be done with semester finals and start Winter Break! We also know that within the first 48 hours of being out of school, they are moping around and moaning about being “bored” already! My first response to this complaint is “There’s so much to do! How about helping with the holiday baking, cleaning, finish wrapping up some presents, clean up around the house, go last minute shopping with me, clean up after the dogs, maybe start by cleaning your room?” (if you haven’t already guessed, I could use a little help cleaning!)
None of these very helpful suggestions to overcome boredom are anywhere near what most kids think of as an alternative to being bored, and you’ll more than likely end up with an even more dramatic emphasis on the moaning and groaning!
Here are some fun family outing ideas you can entice them with once the euphoria of the actual holiday itself has left the building (which is usually immediately after opening presents):
